Police probe possible link between NY and Wilton ring thefts

WILTON - Wilton police say they are investigating whether a house cleaner accused of stealing an $8,000 diamond from a home in New York committed a similar crime in their town.

Police in South Salem, N.Y. say Monica Lopes stole the diamond out of an engagement ring last week and replaced it with a fake one.

Wilton police say a concerned homeowner contacted them after hearing about the incident.  They say the homeowner is claiming the theft of multiple rings, with the total value at about $12,000.
