BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport police are searching for a man who allegedly shot his neighbor in the face last night.

Authorities say the incident happened next door to 42 Clarence St. following an altercation between the suspect and 31-year-old Joseph Vernon. He was rushed to Bridgeport Hospital and has since been transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Investigators say the suspect fled the scene, but that they know his name and that he lived nearby. The suspect wasn't home when they went to his residence, but police arrested his girlfriend for alleged possession of narcotics and risk of injury to a minor that was in the house.

Officials have yet to release the suspect's name.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call police at 203-581-5100.
