STRATFORD - State Police are searching for a motorist whose car struck a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 in Stratford, causing it to crash into a barrier and kill the driver.

State Police say David Rapoport of Warwick, R.I., was thrown from his cab and crushed when his truck rolled onto its side.

Police say the driver of a 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII swerved into the truck's lane early Saturday morning and hit the truck. The 53-year-old Rapoport lost control and struck a barrier, authorities say. The accident shut down the southbound side of I-95 near the Milford-Stratford line for 10 hours.

Police say the driver of the Lincoln sedan fled the scene on foot.

AP wire services were used in this report.
