Police standoff in Fairfield ends in suicide

FAIRFIELD - Police in Fairfield say a standoff ended in suicide yesterday.

Police were called to the home on Homestead Street early yesterday morning by a woman claiming her son was going to commit suicide.

When she was on the phone, dispatchers heard a gunshot and told her to drop the phone and get out of the house.

Police later stormed the house and say they found the body of Michael D'Avanzo, 44, dead on the floor.

A neighbor says D'Avanzo was recently cut off from his pain medication.
