Police: Suspicious chemicals found in Fairfield home

FAIRFIELD - Police say they found potentially explosive chemicals inside a Fairfield home on Tuesday.

A hazmat team, police and local fire departments responded to the scene on Bronson Road after authorities say they went to a house to check on the welfare of an elderly man. Upon arrival, they say they found suspicious chemicals.

Neighboring homes have been evacuated as was the man, who may suffer from dementia, according to police.

Police say they will remain on the scene until the area is deemed safe. They say residents in the area do not need to evacuate unless instructed to do so by authorities.
