MILFORD - A man was taken into custody early Sunday morning after police say they found suspicious materials at his Milford home.

According to police, Derek Meyers, 28, called to report an intruder in his house at 76 Pond St. Responding officers did not find anyone at the residence. However, they allegedly found suspicious and potentially hazardous materials inside, as well as narcotics.

Police say it appeared to be supplies to build explosive devices. As a precaution, neighboring homes were evacuated and the state bomb squad was called in.

During the bomb squad search, police say they found a homemade device with a remote detonator. They also found smoke bombs, smoke grenades and several powders used to make explosive devices.
