FAIRFIELD - Local police are warning the public to take precautions as Halloween approaches after an increase of criminal mischief.

In Fairfield, a resident told police that more than two dozen pumpkins were dumped in her backyard.

Police say someone entered the backyard at 100 Sasco River Lane and put them in a circle at around 2 a.m. Wednesday. The pumpkins were discovered in the morning.

They say the homeowner was startled to find her dogs barking, the flood lights triggered and a Jeep taking off from her dead-end street.

Officers say although no one was hurt, this is considered criminal mischief.

The homeowner says her family plans to sell the pumpkins on Sunday from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. and donate the proceeds to benefit 9-year-old cancer victim Brent McCresh.

Officials are asking anyone with information on the pranks to contact them at 203-254-4800.
