NORWALK - With the Fourth of July just around the corner, police are reminding people in southwestern Connecticut that most fireworks are illegal in the state.

They say sparklers that do not pop or fly around are the only legal firework.

Police have some safety tips for fireworks season. They say you should never use any fireworks indoors and never give them to children.

When using fireworks, you should always wear safety glasses and always have a bucket of water or a hose nearby.

Police say the safest way to enjoy the 4th is to attend a public display conducted at a state approved site.
