Police: Woman struck, killed in Westport

WESTPORT - Westport police say a woman was killed after being hit by a car while trying to cross a busy road tonight.

According to authorities, the accident happened just after 7 p.m. at the intersection of Post Road East and Westfair Drive. They say the woman had just come from a nearby Stop & Shop when she was hit by an Audi convertible. Police say the victim was rushed to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Officials say they are in the early stages of the investigation and that the driver of the vehicle is cooperating.
