Popular Conn. sports writer dies in car crash

NEW HAVEN - (AP) - Dave Solomon, a veteran sports columnistat the New Haven Register, has died in a car crash on Interstate 91in Cromwell. He was 59.

The newspaper, citing police reports,said the car left the highway and struck a tree on Saturday.

Solomon worked at the Register for more than 35 years afterbeginning his career at the Hartford Times. He graduated theUniversity of Connecticut.

He was returning from covering the University of Connecticutfootball team's first practice of the season.

Solomon is survived by his wife, Judy, and two daughters.Services have not yet been arranged.

The cause of the crash is being investigated. No other vehicleswere involved.
