NORWALK - President Barack Obama’s gun proposals have garnered mixed reviews in southwestern Connecticut.

The president proposed universal background checks, a renewed assault weapons ban and a limit on the size of magazines for guns.

Elected officials in Connecticut swiftly endorsed the proposals that come just more than a month since the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School

Some residents are less enthusiastic about the proposals. They say some of the proposals amount to the government dictating their rights and affecting their ability to protect themselves.

The universal background check proposal, however, is receiving more support than limits on assault weapons and magazine size.
