WESTPORT - The principal of the Coleytown Elementary School in Westport says students returned to a normal day of classes today, one day after the school was evacuated because of a grenade.

Principal Janna Bell says that a student brought in a deactivated hand grenade in his backpack.

Police and fire departments were called to the school after a teacher overheard a student talking about the grenade while in line for a bus.

While most students and faculty were already gone, school officials immediately cleared the rest of the building until it could be determined that the device had all of its explosive elements removed.

There is no word yet on whether the boy was disciplined.
