BRIDGEPORT - A prisoner who escaped custody Wednesday morning in Bridgeport has turned himself in, according to police.
A police source says Nelson Vega, who was in jail for burglary, was chained to other prisoners and waiting to go to court when he asked guards to loosen his handcuffs. Vega somehow managed to slip away, and his disappearance went unnoticed for about 30 minutes, the source said.
It happened on a second-floor loading area at police headquarters.

Police say they nearly apprehended Vega Thursday morning along Nichols Street on the city's East Side, but he eluded them.
City spokesman Brett Broesder say an internal review is underway to find out exactly how Vega escaped.
This marks the first escape in Bridgeport in 10 years.
