HARTFORD - The Public Health Committee is considering a bill that would ban smoking inside private social clubs.

The clubs were exempt from the 2003 ban on smoking in bars and restaurants.

Supporters of the wider ban say the concession was needed back in 2003, but now it is no longer necessary.

Opponents say organizations such as the Knights of Columbus, the VFW and the American Legion should be allowed to make their own decisions.
