MONROE - More than 400 dogs in need of homes will be in North Haven this weekend, at what's being called the largest pet adoption event in Connecticut.

All the dogs up for adoption at the Shelter Dogs Rock event are rescues. About 100 are coming from shelters within the state and about 300 from rural shelters in Georgia. Frederick Acker, executive director of the SPCA of Connecticut, says a lot of the puppies are purebreds and many are small breeds.

The adoption event begins Friday, July 10 at 10 a.m. at the PetSmart in North Haven. Older dogs and at least 40 kittens will also be available for adoption.
