Quinnipiac poll projects close race for governor between Dannel Malloy and Tom Foley

HAMDEN - A new poll says Gov. Dannel Malloy could face a close battle if he runs for re-election this fall.

The Quinnipiac University poll finds that if the election were held today, Dannel Malloy would tie with leading GOP candidate Tom Foley.

Malloy narrowly defeated the former ambassador to Ireland in 2010.

Researchers found that Foley leads all other potential Republican challengers by 35 percent in a potential primary.

The next closest candidate is Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton with 11 percent support among Republicans.
