NORWALK - This morning’s roof collapse in Norwalk is being blamed on the weather.

Norwalk firefighters say holes in the roof of a building on Chestnut Street collected rain overnight and the structure could not take the extra weight. Both the roof and the second floor of the building gave in.

All that debris hit the gas meter, causing a leak. Fire officials say neighbors first thought there had been an explosion.

Emergency crews shut off the gas to the street while they isolated the problem.

The building was vacant and already scheduled for demolition.

No one was hurt.
