Ready, set, shop in southwestern Connecticut

NORWALK - Shoppers in southwestern Connecticut got a very early start this Black Friday, as parking lots began filling up even before Thanksgiving ended.

Many shoppers camped out to be first in line when doors opened at retailers such as Walmart, which was ready for business at 10 p.m. Thursday, and Target, which let shoppers in at 11 p.m.

Those who lined up overnight got a jump start on their holiday shopping with some great bargains. However, some shoppers say the crowds were out of control in some stores, especially when big-ticket, low-priced items sold out quickly.

In Milford, police were forced to use a stun gun on 26-year-old Brian Shellnut after he allegedly hit another shopper while waiting in line at Walmart. Police say the fight broke out when an 11-year-old boy was knocked to the ground and Shellnut confronted the boy's father as he tried to help his son.
