WESTPORT - Record high temperatures Friday kept some people from doing what they love to do outside: exercising.
Active residents in Campo Beach say the trick to exercising in the heat is to plan your workout to make sure to avoid the hottest part of the day. They say working out early in the morning or later in the evening are the best times.
One resident said he stayed true to his 6-mile-a-day routine on the boardwalk regardless of the heat.
Wilton High School's track and cross-country coach says running in extreme heat can be very dangerous. He says people have to run more slowly and stop for more water breaks in order to avoid causing injury to themselves.
Avid runners say if you are working out in hot temperatures, make sure you have plenty of shade, take breaks, and, of course, drink plenty of water.
