REDDING - A Redding resident is getting a heroes thank you after making a remarkable rescue during a massive house fire earlier this afternoon.

The homeowner?s son spotted flames and thought it was a brush fire until the charred roof started falling on him. The son then went in to rescue the family's pet dog.

The fire, which broke out at 183 Black Rock Turnpike, lasted more than four hours and brought firefighters from several communities to the area. The house is about a half-mile into the woods, forcing firefighters to drive ATVs in order to bring roughly 3,000 feet of hose down the driveway.

Officials say they know the fire started somewhere on the roof or in the attic, but are still investigating the cause.
