REDDING - Redding residents have voted against establishing a police commission to oversee the police department.

The board would have had the authority to appoint, promote and reprimand all of the town's police officers.

It also would have overseen the department's annual budget.

Town officials say 348 people voted for the commission, while 848 voted against it.
