HARTFORD - (AP) - A new law in Connecticut designates March 30 as the official day to honor Vietnam veterans.
Gov. M. Jodi Rell says she has signed legislation requiring "welcome home" ceremonies annually at the Capitol in Hartford and elsewhere.
Rell said in a statement that Americans - whether or not they support the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq - appreciate the service of veterans there. She says that's different from the 1960s and1970s when Vietnam veterans were generally not welcomed home from an unpopular war.
The bill passed unanimously in the state House of Representative and state Senate.
