NORWALK - Back-to-school shoppers are spending more money this year, according to a survey by the Wall Street Journal.

The report says on average, a family of four is spending about $60 more than last year, bringing their total to about $550.

Some shoppers at the Wal-Mart on Connecticut Avenue in Norwalk agree that they are upping their spending this year. Wal-Mart says sales are up and is expecting back-to-school sales to jump 16 percent compared to last year.

Many stores say they're offering big discounts hoping to encourage shoppers.
