FAIRFIELD - Fairfield may soon be able to choose its next police chief from its own ranks.

The town has stated the three leading candidates would be able to meet the town residency requirements if they are given the job, according to a report from Fairfield Patch.com.

The town charter requires the police chief be a registered Fairfield voter, but none of the three leading in house candidates currently live in town.

A new chief would have six months to establish residency.
