BRIDGEPORT - The Bridgeport Rescue Mission is making sure it's ready to accommodate additional people ahead of the arctic temperatures expected to hit the area this week.

Workers say the rescue mission has been at capacity more often than not lately, and they expect an even higher number of people seeking shelter this week.

Located at 1088 Fairfield Ave., the rescue mission is equipped with 30 beds for men and has set up extra mattresses in the building to help out as many people as possible. The Bridgeport Rescue Mission also has a women's shelter located on Barnum Avenue.

The director of development for the Bridgeport Rescue Mission says no one will be turned away.

Both facilities are open at 5 p.m. for people seeking shelter.

"If there's anybody out there who needs a coat to weather the cold days, we have plenty of coats," says Linda Casey, of the Bridgeport Rescue Mission. "If homeless, they know they can find a warm safe haven here in our buildings.?
