NORWALK - Connecticut residents are bracing themselves as new state taxes go into effect this Friday.

The changes include a sales tax hike from 6 percent to 6.35 percent, and a tax increase on alcohol and cigarettes. Many services, including pet grooming and clothing totaling less than $50, will also no longer be exempt from sales tax.

Customers and small business owners say that while the hikes might seem minor, a dollar here and there is going to add up quickly.
