NEWTOWN - Residents gathered today to celebrate the end of summer with the 52nd annual Newtown Labor Day Parade.

Those present say the event was a powerful way to get the community together following the Sandy Hook tragedy.

Some neighbors said it was nice to get everyone together for a reason that makes people smile.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal, who was also in attendance, said the parade was a part of the town's healing process. He said he had never seen a more spirited crowd in the 25 years he's been participating in the event.
