BRIDGEPORT - Gov. Rell announced plans Tuesday to go ahead with a plan to build a $15 million juvenile detention facility for girls in Bridgeport.

The plans for the state-owned property on 115 Virginia Ave. have sparked worry in residents who created an opposition group known as the 'Committee To Derail The Jail.'

Rell expects the plan to be passed by the State Bond Commission at a meeting on Jan. 8, despite the disapproval of some residents.

The Committee To Derail The Jail has scheduled a press conference at the Virginia Avenue property on Wednesday at noon.
