Residents rally to save historic boat yard

STAMFORD - Stamford residents gathered today to save their last working boat yard from a residential housing developer.

The Brewers Yacht Haven was asked to vacate the premises in order for the owner to clean up contaminated soil, but residents say they fear what will happen after the cleanup is over.

The sale requirement when Building Land Technologies bought the land in 2007 was that an operational boat yard must remain on the grounds. However, how much of the 14-acre yard remains is what worries residents.

The boat yard is currently the only facility for Stamford police and fire boats to operate their emergency services.
