NORWALK - Residents across Connecticut have been flocking to local pharmacies for the flu vaccine after a state of emergency was declared in Boston due to an outbreak.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now reports 41 states, including Connecticut, to have widespread influenza activity. Doctors say the flu outbreaks are occurring five weeks earlier than normal.

The Connecticut Health Department says it has seen almost the same number of positive flu cases in the first few months of this year's season than all of last year.

Doctors say it's not too late to get a flu shot, as the season may run until May.
