NORWALK - The Department of Revenue Services is warning residents about a tax scam.

Officials say many people have received phone calls accusing them of tax fraud and tax evasion.

Nancy Domyan, a Norwalk resident, says she has received the calls on several occasions. She says the latest was just a few days ago.

Domyan says she immediately knew the accusation was false.

Officials say due to the threatening nature of the calls, some people may comply with the callers' requests and give away money or confidential information.

Marcia Schoepfer, tax unit manager at the Department of Revenue Services, says the department would never call someone out of the blue and demand payment. She says the agency always sends bills.

Anyone who receives a suspicious call about a tax bill is urged to contact the Department of Revenue Services and the Federal Trade Commission.
