GREENWICH - As shoppers headed out to take advantage of Presidents Day discounts, many local retailers say they saw a rise in demand for high-end goods.

According to a recent report by retail analysts, the sale of luxury items is returning to pre-recession levels. Southwestern Connecticut shop owners say they've noticed the change.

At BMW of Darien, Steve Koslowski agrees that he has seen a return of consumer confidence in his showroom. He says buyers are opening the door to indulgence after a rough couple of years.

While not everyone is in the market for a brand-new car and expensive shopping, most say they think it's a promising sign of what's ahead.
