Retired Milford Police Sgt. Joe Della Monica helps pull man from burning car in N.J.

MILFORD - A retired Milford police sergeant is being credited with saving a man from a burning car in New Jersey over the weekend.

Joe Della Monica was driving down the Garden State Parkway Saturday when he saw an SUV veer across three lanes of traffic, strike a bridge abutment and burst into flames.

Della Monica says he, along with an off-duty police officer and a firefighter, pulled the driver to safety just before the car exploded.

The driver was airlifted to a hospital and is expected to be OK. Police say the driver is facing reckless driving charges.
