BRIDGEPORT - The Catholic Church has chosen a new bishop for the Bridgeport Diocese.

Pope Francis announced today that Rev. Frank Caggiano will succeed Bishop William Lori. He comes from the Brooklyn Diocese.

The 54-year-old son of Italian immigrants says he looks forward to the challenge of running the Bridgeport Diocese, but admits he has some big shoes to fill. He says he will continue to work hard to earn back the trust of those hurt by the priest sex scandals.

Caggiano's formal installation as Bishop will take place Sept. 19.
