NORWALK - A review committee tonight voted against the controversial plan to build an Islamic center and mosque in Norwalk.
The committee voted to deny a recommendation to Norwalk's Zoning Commission to allow the construction of a mosque and multi-purpose room.
Several public meetings have been held over the center. Some members of the community argued that the streets aren't wide enough to handle traffic and parking. Opponents also cited noise concerns.
A spokesperson for the center said that if the plan is denied again by the Zoning Commission, they may head to court to defend their right to have a place to worship.
The next vote on the issue is scheduled for June 6.
