Ridgefield H.S. student killed in crash on Ridgebury Road

Police say the 15-year-old girl was walking along Ridgebury Road at around 9:30 p.m. when she was struck by a passing vehicle. The driver reportedly stayed at the scene. (3/16/14)

RIDGEFIELD - A Ridgefield High School student was killed in a crash Friday night.

Police say the 15-year-old girl was walking along Ridgebury Road at around 9:30 p.m. when she was struck by a passing vehicle. The driver reportedly stayed at the scene.

First responders attempted save the teen, but she later died at Danbury Hospital.

Neighbors say Ridgebury Road is a busy street that can be difficult to drive and walk on.

Students at Ridgefield High School were supposed to perform the musical "Meet Me in St. Louis" Saturday night, but that show has been postponed.

A growing memorial has sprouted at the spot where the accident happened, with flowers, teddy bears and candles.

Police have not released the names of the driver or the victim.
