Robert George, of Darien, accused of attacking his wife

DARIEN - A Darien doctor and member of the town's Representative Town Meeting is free on bond after allegedly assaulting his wife and breaking her jaw.

Police say Robert George, 73, punched his wife in the back knocking her to the ground and repeatedly kicked her in the face.

The assault allegedly happened on March 10.

Police say George was not arrested until late last week because he had checked himself into a substance abuse rehab facility.     

George has been ordered to stay away from the victim.
