NORWALK - The graduating class of 2009 celebrated its commencement Sunday at Sacred Heart University.

Most graduates say they are trying to remain optimistic about the job market despite the economic recession. Some say they launched their job searches early to hopefully make up for the lack of open positions.

Class President Brian Germain reminded classmates in his speech that volunteer work and community development are good options during an economic downturn.

More than 1,400 students graduated from Sacred Heart this year.
