FAIRFIELD - Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump faced off Monday night at Hofstra University in their first one-on-one debate.

Sacred Heart University is one of the many places where watch parties were held.

Event organizers said it is crucial to focus on the issues and pay attention to where the candidates stand on topics such as immigration, the economy and Social Security.

AARP held an informational event about Social Security prior to the debate and the importance of updating it for students.

The second presidential debate will take place on Oct. 9.
