WESTPORT - The Saugatuck Congregational Church is planning to transform nearly two years after much of it was destroyed in a six-alarm fire.
A worship service will be held on the church's lawn at 245 Post Road East this Sunday at 1 p.m., where the parish will usher in new beginnings.
Fire officials who investigated the inferno in November 2011 say they never determined what the cause was. The fire destroyed so much of the structure that it was not safe to hold services inside.
In the meantime, the congregation has been holding services at Temple Israel in town.
The church's pastor says some of the changes to come will include an expanded youth room and entrance.
The work is expected to be completed by late fall of next year.
