NEW CANAAN - New Canaan first responders, school officials and volunteers helped prepare students and staff at Saxe Middle School for an active shooter situation.

Newtown police officers, state police and FBI agents also attended the event, which was spurred by the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting back in December. They role-played with a gunman and a shooting victim.

Officials say one of the more difficult parts of the training involves reuniting students with their parents after a crisis.

With the training behind them, law enforcement officials say they will now discuss which drills worked best and possibly implement them in the event of an actual tragedy.
