BRIDGEPORT - Police in Norwalk are commending a school bus driver along with a mother and son for their fast actions during a crisis situation.

According to police, a school bus stalled yesterday on the Metro-North track at Broad Street as a train approached. Police say the gates came down after the bus stalled.

Police say the driver immediately got the 40 elementary school kids off the bus. Luckily, a nearby mom and son were able to help guide the kids to safety.

Metro-North says the train's engineer saw the bus and had plenty of time to stop.

Police plan to formally recognize bus driver Victor Monte along with Melissa Acevedo and her 13-year-old son Cory next month.
