STAMFORD - A science teacher at Cloonan Middle School has been accused of making racist comments to one of her students, allegedly calling the student a "ghetto black girl" and adding that her students were "worthless and stupid" and "wouldn't amount to anything."
Four students filed a complaint Monday morning against their science teacher, Dana Willinger. Child advocate Johnna Paradis of the group Families Moving Forward condemned Willinger's remarks, saying, "teachers should be a bit more sensitive when dealing with children."
Willinger acknowledged she made the remarks, but insisted she was only referring to the students' writing and language skills, not their behavior. She apologized to her students today, saying she was sorry if she offended anyone.
