WESTPORT - Scientists are now going over data that could help them determine if southwestern Connecticut is at risk for another earthquake.

Yesterday, residents were rattled when the area was hit with tremors from a 5.8-magnitude earthquake that originated in rural Virginia.

Scientists are analyzing activity recorded by a seismometer that was installed less than a month ago at the Rolnick Observatory in Westport.

According to researchers, the seismic data is critical since the area hasn't seen a major earthquake in decades. They say the information could help determine if building codes need to be amended, or if any power plants are at risk.
