BRIDGEPORT - Temperatures scorched southwestern Connecticut today.

Families headed to beaches, pools and shady spots as the mercury rose to over 100 degrees in some areas. Health officials urged people to stay indoors and to drink plenty of fluids.

Anyone without air conditioning can find shelter in a number of cooling centers in cities and towns throughout the region.
