WESTON - Weston’s Senior Activities Center possible expansion is being delayed as parents are calling for a survey of the property to ensure it is secure.

The parents are concerned about the security at Hurlbutt Elementary School, which is attached to the center.

They say there is a lack of security to get into the center, which is also a public event space.

"There's no security stopping anybody from going in there,” says one parent. “There's no one checking IDs, there's absolutely nothing."

First Selectman Gayle Weinstein says security is the town's top priority and that there is a locked door separating the center from the school.

The board will vote this month on the proposal to have a security contractor do a survey on the property before deciding on the expansion.
