BRIDGEPORT - Sen. Richard Blumenthal said on Saturday that he supports a plan to name a new high school in Bridgeport after President Barack Obama.

Blumenthal, along with Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch, said that the Park City has improved under President Obama's presidency, and that the decision to rename the school was easy.

As News 12 has reported, the school will be built at the former General Electric site on Boston Avenue.

Mayor Finch said President Obama helped the Park City gain federal funding to help local students in several key areas.

"Bridgeport is preparing the kids for the jobs of tomorrow by extending the school day through after-school programs, by extending the opportunity to pre-school to start earlier at 4 years old," he said.

Officials said that the Board of Education will make the final decision on the school's name in the coming months.
