Shays mulling run for governor

GREENWICH - Ex-Rep. Chris Shays is considering a run for governor, according to an assistant to Shays.

Shays says he wants to run "if the stars align." The Republican first made those comments at a roast Wednesday night in Greenwich.

Shays lost his seat in Congress in 2008 to Democrat Jim Himes after holding it for more than 20 years.

The governor's race is wide open this year after incumbent Republican Jodi Rell declared she would not run for re-election.

Sacred Heart University political science professor Gary Rose says Shays would probably be the republican front-runner if he declared.
