BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport police say three men are in jail after shots were fired during a break-in.

The break-in happened at the AT&T store on Main Street at around 3:30 a.m.

Authorities say the men used a sledgehammer to break into the store through the wall of a Chinese food store next to the AT&T. The suspects then allegedly led them on a brief chase that ended at a nearby McDonald's.

Police say the men triggered an alarm while trying to get their hands on iPhones, which allowed the owner of the store to watch the crime from home using remote surveillance.

Police say they mistook the sledgehammer for a gun and fired several shots, but didn't hit anyone.

Police say the suspects are being held on $100,000 bonds and will go before a judge tomorrow.
