STRATFORD - Commuting to places such as Manhattan and Boston is about to get a lot quicker at Sikorsky Memorial Airport.

Tailwind Aviation unveiled its new seaplane service Wednesday. The seaplanes offer commuters service to Manhattan in just 20 minutes. The planes actually land on the East River along 23rd Street in Manhattan.

"It's a customer that really wants to save about two hours during the commute to New York City because we actually fly right into the heart of Manhattan," says Mike Ritzi, of Tailwind Aviation.

The service also includes flights to Boston and Philadelphia that take just under an hour. A one-way trip to Boston starts at about $134 while an Amtrak premium fare is only $45. However, a trip on Amtrak will take three hours.

Tailwind officials say commuters must arrive 20 minutes prior to their flight. Regularly scheduled flights begin Sept. 9.
